Tell us abit about yourself and your business!
Hey! My name is Tamsyn and my amazing husband (a.k.a. unpaid intern) and I are super blessed to be living the farm life in Carbrook QLD. We specialise in bridal bouquet preservation, creating beautiful works of resin art for couples so they can cherish their wedding flowers forever. We also grow our own flowers, and have close to 200 rose plants on our little farm.
How did you start out as an artist?
I'm actually a former primary school teacher who picked up resin art (like every second person in the world) during the covid lockdown of 2020. I assumed it would be super easy and I would make some ocean serving boards for my friends for Christmas- I fell down the resin rabbit hole *hard*. I started out with regular coloured resin pieces, then ocean pieces, then naturally gravitated towards floral work. I couldn't get anyone from the general public to buy my floral resin work, so I decided to move into Bridal and Memorial work, which was scary at first, but now I'm so grateful to have this as my full time job!
What does art mean to you?
I have always thought that good art moves people- to feel, think, or do something. I like to think my art brings people joy when they look at their pieces and remember their special day, or remember the joy that someone they once loved has brought to their life.
Who are your favourite artists that have helped shape you?
I draw a lot of inspiration from resin artists overseas, particularly Rejoice and Blossom, ReedMoth and fellow Aussie byclarissa.au on Instagram.
What’s the hardest thing you have tried to perfect (art project) and did you succeed?
Oh, the ocean technique. I spent soooo much time researching and practising that technique, and once I had it nailed it felt so good!
What are you trying to currently improve on?
I really dislike making spheres, as I hate working upside down! Hopefully with more practise I will become more confident in making these as they are actually super popular.
What is your favourite style of art?
I love art that is delicate and whimsical. I guess that's why I like doing floral work so much!
What is your favourite medium?
Before I found resin, you wouldn't have caught me dead calling myself an artist! I can't draw, paint or make anything with my hands, but I feel like I've finally found the perfect medium for me.
